The wine of kings — from the finest grapes
Discover our winesKirály dűlő (King vineyard) in Mád is one of the oldest and most prestigious vineyard sites in the Tokaj Wine Region. Its name is no coincidence: this extraordinary site was once reserved for royalty. On south-facing andesite-clay soil, at the rocky foothills of the Zemplén Mountains, grows the Furmint that gives MADaniel wines their soul.
Every bottle is a unique expression of Király dűlő Furmint — from dry elegance to the majesty of Aszú.
The king of wines. Crafted from hand-selected botrytised berries, aged in traditional small oak barrels.
"As it was grown" — whole clusters, Aszú berries included, are pressed together. Characterised by natural sweetness and rich fruitiness.
A mirror of the terroir. Green apple, citrus, and a distinctive smoky mineral finish — telling the story of Király dűlő's bedrock and the winds of Mád.
Király dűlő (King vineyard) in Mád is one of the oldest and most prestigious vineyard sites in the Tokaj Wine Region. Its name is no coincidence: this exceptional site was once reserved for royalty. On the south-facing slope above 300 metres, Furmint finds everything it needs: the mineral richness of andesite-clay soil, the ripening power of sunlight, and the autumn mists from nearby water surfaces that foster noble rot.
The andesite and rhyolite bedrock provides rich mineral salts to the vines, creating the distinctive smoky-mineral character of the wines. The porous structure of volcanic rock ensures ideal water management.
Király dűlő sits on the sheltered, south-facing side of the Mád basin. Autumn mists rising from the Bodrog valley and the basin's heat retention together create ideal conditions for Botrytis cinerea — noble rot — while sunny afternoons ensure perfect grape ripeness.
Király dűlő's oldest Furmint vines are several decades old. Through low yields and deep root systems, they produce exceptionally concentrated, complex grapes.
The unique advantage of this site is that noble rot conditions develop in almost every vintage. The alternation of morning fog and afternoon warmth enables the formation of exceptional Aszú berries — the foundation of Tokaji Aszú.
The vineyard has been recorded as an outstanding site since the 1700s. Over the centuries, the finest Tokaji wines reserved for royal courts were made here.
Pruning, green work, and harvesting are done by hand — these are the three key moments where human attention and experience are irreplaceable. The individual care of each vine and selective harvest are reflected in the quality of our wines.
The king of wines. Crafted from individually hand-picked Aszú berries. Its final character emerges after years of ageing in traditional Gönc and Szerednye oak barrels. The mineral richness of Király dűlő's volcanic soil and the complex aromas of botrytis unite in this immortal wine. With decades of ageing potential.
"As it was grown" — whole clusters, Aszú berries included, are pressed together. Through extended ageing the wine gains unmatched complexity: a medley of rich fruit, honey, and dried fruit. A masterpiece with extraordinary ageing potential.
A pure mirror of the terroir. The mineral richness of andesite soil and Furmint's natural acidity create perfect balance. Green apple, citrus, and a distinctive smoky mineral finish — telling the story of the vineyard's bedrock and the winds of Mád.
An extremely warm and dry summer in the Tokaj region, with heatwaves ripening grapes early. Concentrated, full-bodied dry Furmints and bold botrytised base material for Aszú were produced.
A balanced growing season marked by variable weather. September rains were followed by ideal autumn fog, with excellent botrytis infection in Mád — a promising Aszú vintage with elegant acidity.
Cool spring followed by warm summer months. Slow ripening favoured Furmint's mineral character. Grapes achieved excellent ripeness on Király dűlő's south-facing slopes — weather conditions favoured Aszú berry formation.
Following a cold winter, Király dűlő's vines are healthy. After spring vineyard work, budbreak was ideal and shoots are growing well. We expect a warm summer and favourable conditions for Aszú berry development.
"…to stay out of nature's way — and let Király dűlő tell its own story. In every bottle, we capture the complete narrative of a vintage."
MADaniel Winery builds on centuries of Tokaj tradition combined with minimal intervention and a professional focus on quality. We work exclusively with the finest raw materials, harvest by hand, and tend each vine individually. Patience, precision, and a profound respect for the terroir.
Every grape cluster and Aszú berry is selectively hand-harvested by experienced pickers — machines cannot achieve the required delicacy.
We use yeast selected to match the late harvest and the high sugar content of Aszú berries, unlocking the wine's full aromatic potential.
Ageing in barrels made from Zemplén oak, as Tokaj tradition demands.
Through deliberate yield restriction, we ensure the absolute priority of quality. From pruning to green work, we ensure that berries develop with maximum concentration.
In September and October, by hand selection. Experienced pickers collect Aszú berries one by one, sometimes over weeks of painstaking work.
Clusters containing Aszú berries are gently opened and soaked, promoting the extraction of concentrated sugars and aromas. Finally, gentle traditional gravity pressing follows.
Specialised yeast, matched to the exceptional raw material and tolerant of extremely high sugar levels, guides the creation of the wine.
The individually harvested and sorted Aszú berries are added to the fermenting wine, followed by gentle pressing, and the final phase of fermentation at even higher sugar and extract levels.
12–36 months in Zemplén oak barrels, at our cellar's constant 12°C temperature and ideal humidity.
After gentle pressing, our wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks, then aged in oak barrels following centuries of tradition. This contributes to the complexity that makes MADaniel wines unique. The naturally constant temperature and humidity, along with the distinctive microclimate of the Tokaj Wine Region, all contribute to our wines reaching their full potential.
